Isolated yet among people in the English countryside with the prettiest villages, nature trails, woodland walks, patchwork hills and dramatic dales!! Why go camping, when you can go glamping? If you are one of those who love camping but with a touch of luxury, then glamping pods are what you are looking for.
Glamping pods are cozy and luxurious and can fit 2 to 4 people, depending on the type of pod. They are usually made of timber and are insulated to keep you warm in the cold winters and cool in the hot summers. With plenty of peaceful and secluded spots in UK for glamping, we chose the Woodovis Park in Tavistock.
Woodovis Park is a small, safe and peaceful 5 star holiday park near the ancient Stannary Market town of Tavistock and nestled on the edge of Devon’s Tamar Valley: an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a designated World Heritage Site. It is close to the Dartmoor National Park and within easy reach of the UK’s most dramatic coastlines and beaches. Public transport access is limited to such places, hence driving to the glamping spots is the best option. The park also provides cycles and electric bikes on rent to explore the nearby areas.
We did not venture out anywhere, as we wanted to just relax and we were here only for a night. But if you plan a long stay, then definitely you can have do a lot of activities and visit near by places.
A complete guide on things to do outside the park can be found here.
Situated in the middle of a farm and spread across a huge span of land, Woodovis Park has super glamping pods, simple glamping pods, fixed caravans, designated spaces for your own pitch tents and caravans. This beautiful property has a swimming pool, therapeutic sauna, play area for children, an activity room and lots more. It has separate bathing rooms for men and women, each equipped with around 3-4 shower rooms, toilets, toiletries and hair dryers. There is also a separate bathroom fitted with a tub for family use. The bathrooms are very clean and well kept. There is a common area for washing your utensils and drying them. They are equipped with hot water supply and soap for the utensils. In the main entrance area, there is a small shop where you can find essentials like butter, marmalades, juices, alcohol, biscuits etc. The shop also sells scrumptious freshly baked croissants and bread in the morning for breakfast (you need to preorder it the night before with the property). There is a coffee vending machine in the activity room, which takes care of your tea and coffee requirements.
Though glamping is a more luxurious version of camping, you still need to carry the basic amenities that you do while camping. You definitely need your pillows, duvet and bed sheets, as the glamping pods come with a mattress only (this applies to a super glamping pod, for a simple glamping pod you will need to get bedding as well). You need to carry a water kettle, an electric or gas stove if you plan to cook food and make your own tea/coffee. We carried ready to eat meals and cup noodles.
It is nothing less than a magical experience, sleeping in a cute little pod in the midst of a farm with pin drop silence (except sounds of a few creepy crawlies). To add a little extra touch to the silent night, we had carried our hookah pot with us. The hubble bubble of the hookah with some old romantic songs under the starry sky!! What an end to the most beautiful night!!
